Sky Pick telent to Upgrade WiFi at Cricket Grounds Across the UK

Tuesday, Sep 3rd, 2019 (1:43 pm) - Score 1,181

Sky (Sky TV / Sky Broadband) has partnered with telent and the English and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to complete an upgrade of the legacy public WiFi infrastructure at a number of cricket grounds across the United Kingdom, which they say should benefit “hundreds of thousands of fans” with better coverage, capacity and network speeds.

So far telent has already completed the design and deployment of new cabling, switches and wireless access points (AP) for the Sky Wi-Fi platform at Old Trafford (i.e. just in time for the fourth Ashes Test Match – 4th to 8th September), Durham, Trent Bridge and the Bristol County Ground.

Apparently further upgrades are also set to be completed at additional cricket grounds across the UK, with telent responsible for surveying the grounds, designing and installing the networks. Sadly the exact details of their extended rollout plan have yet to be published.

Chris Weeden, Sky UK Sales Director (Groups), said:

“The Cricket World Cup is one of the biggest events in the sport and saw thousands of fans from across the globe gather at a number of stadiums in the UK. With fans who attended the cricket matches wanting to share every moment, whether it be by live streaming on social media or downloading matchday-related content, a seamless user experience is a top priority for the ECB.

We chose to work with telent as the team has a proven track record of delivering the reliable, high-quality, end-to-end service at the scale required, in a timely manner.”

End.
