Customers of mobile operator EE and BT (BTMobile) may be pleased to learn that data usage (mobile broadband) on their network will become free (“zero rated“) from 6pm to midnight on Sunday 11th July 2021, which is of course in celebration of England’s final Euro 2020 football match with Italy.
If customers have already used up their existing allowance, then EE and BT have promised that they’ll still be able to make use of the same promotion at no extra charge. All of this will happen automatically, so customers don’t need to do anything. The match itself is due to kick-off at 8pm.
Marc Allera, CEO of BT’s Consumer Group, said: “Millions of fans across the country will understandably be glued to the final – whether that’s at home, out and about, or at Wembley Stadium connected by EE – and with emotions running high, the last thing you need concern yourself with is data running out. On Sunday evening, customers can rest assured that when it counts, you can count on our award-winning network – to stream every kick, capture every moment and share every roar when the Three Lions bring it home!.”
Does Plusnet mobile included?
Only EE and BT Mobile mentioned.
That’s not fair as Plusnet as EE network as well.
Perfectly fair – Plusnet is the bargain basement offering, so will not get additional perks/features.

Lots using EE. Offer is from 2 retail suppliers, Plusnet do their own thing still.
I guess it pay monthly contract only! Not available to Pay As You Go EE
It is availible, i just went and bought a sim from me local quik e mart and stuck a fiver on it, they said i would be able to use the unlimited footy data on it.
Lol they try do something nice yet everyone is crying in comments as usual.
1 person.
Indeed. Most people really aren’t that bothered about a whole 6 hours of unlimited data. It’s a nice touch but it’s not exactly life changing.
It does make a difference. Lots of people (out at work or without a TV nearby or not near wifi) will be streaming the match via 4G on their phones from IPlayer.
120 mins of footy (assuming extra time) will blow away many low end plans (especially if near the end of the data month, or if data was used up on streaming earlier matches).
It’s a nice gesture and at the single most expensive time for a company to be making a gesture like this. Hope they have their CDNs ready.
Second thoughts: To be fair it may not cost them all that much as everyone will be streaming exactly the same footage so an internal network multicast might make it remarkably cheap as opposed to sending the equivalent amount of random internet-sourced data to each individual.
I wonder if this will work, it’s worth checking the bill.
Who’s celebrating. They throw it away against the Italians. Awful. But you can’t criticize them as you will be called Racist.
