Three UK Launch Cheap 5G Powered Business Broadband Plan

Three UK ZTE 5G Hub

Mobile operator Three UK has today announced the launch of their new 5G powered Business Broadband package, which they say will “offer a game changing alternative to fixed line broadband” and costs from just £14.17 per month (excluding VAT) with no upfront charges – this includes a 30-day money-back guarantee.

The Business Broadband package itself, which promises “average download speeds in excess of 100Mbps” (in reality this will vary – depending upon where you are), comes attached to a 24-month contract term (12-months costs more at £18.33) and appears to bundle the same 5G ZTE router that was previously sold to their domestic customers.

Apparently, the business plan allows “heavier streaming, downloading, and increased capacity for multiple users“, although they don’t spell out any specific technical differences. In addition, Three UK make no mention of any other traditionally business centric features, such as Static IP addresses, traffic prioritisation or Service Level Agreements (SLA). Without those it still looks more like a re-badged consumer package.

Snehal Bhudia, Director of Business Propositions & Go To Market for Three UK, said:

“Everyone knows that a strong reliable internet connection is absolutely vital for SMEs, but often those connections are neither convenient nor great value for money.

At Three Business, we know things should be different. That’s why we’ve introduced a broadband connection that runs on 5G, meaning no waiting for roads to be dug up or engineers running wires through the walls, simply plug and play out of the box. All for less than the cost of fixed line alternatives with similar speeds . At Three, we’re in the unique position of being the only mobile network with the UK’s largest spectrum holding, which means our 5G broadband is faster than what our competitors can offer.

We’re really excited at the difference our cost-effective and convenient broadband is making to businesses already.”

End.

Initially thought you accidently put the old ZTE router as the picture until I checked and that’s what Three is showing on the store page. Seems like an odd choice to bundle the old consumer equipment for businesses unless this is a mistake on Three’s end.

Actually it makes sense, Most biz will have their own kit and set the ZTE Router into Bridge mode for something slightly better (Draytek / Firewalls etc)

Also will be great as a 5G Backup if they have a Ethernet / Fibre line etc.
Draytek 2927 AC could be good for this sort of thing 🙂

Well I had the Huawei which had to go back as it kept on going wrong due to the heat – good luck to them I say!

and then update the firmware and brick half of em. go three!

I bet this “business” service does not support IPv6 either.

Literally today I had the misfortune of trying to use Three’s “30-day money-back guarantee” when cancelling a home broadband contract. I spoke to multiple people both on the phone and in their store and nobody would even admit the 30-day guarantee existed. Even after I showed them a copy of their own T&Cs! I eventually found someone with a brain cell in their social media department who sorted it out (apparently). Truely disgusting behaviour. Where to complain? Offcom? ASA?

Although the router is a great bit of kit. Fantastic WiFi signal on it also.

5G is so flakey! It will never replace fixed line comms!

    1. Avatar photo Ell says:

No it’s not, coverage of 5G does vary as its still being rolled out much like thd introduction of 4G was gradual so to say its flaky is misleading as all 4 operators have various different levels of 5G coverage.

For example, West Hampstead has 5G offered by both Three and Vodafone whereas the Three offering is far superior.

As your misguided belief that it won’t never replace fixed line comms well again you are wrong as some places that are yet to get FTTP but can get 5G will find 5G very attractive.

    2. Avatar photo WFM says:

Less flaky than virgin media lol. I’m using three 5G as my main internet link. Virgin media is my backup link until the contract expires.

    3. Avatar photo GaryH says:

Ell saying 5g can replace fixed line because there isn’t any fibre yet is slightly pedantic sure you can replace a fixed connection with 5g but.

It’s like saying a bicycle can replace a broken down car because you can’t afford a helicopter.

Non business individual customers can buy non business plan and have this device now the question is can we move this device from one address to another address if there is any transfer of accomodation?

    1. Avatar photo keeper says:

I moved twice when I had my contact – not a problem I never told them – and I only had 4G in the second location anyway

  7. Avatar photo Gary Mackenzie says:

Hope they guarantee a minimum level, presently getting sub 500 kbs both ways on my 3 4g router which was fine for first three days until they started working on local masts 70 days ago.
No finish time for fixes, so even worse internet than bt ADSL 2mb I bought the 3 system to replace.

    1. Avatar photo Meeeeeee says:

Three 4G is very slow in places as it’s oversubscribed. Try swapping from 4G to 3G as my phone gets <1Mb on 4G but 12Mb+ on 3G!

    2. Avatar photo Riley says:

it’s not over subscribed. People love repeating that one. Tell me, if it’s oversubscribed, how come they’re also the fastest network? and their 5G is really super fast?. Their 4G is rubbish because they’re refarming the frequencies, not got anything to do with subscriber numbers – at least not looking at the problem as the whole UK.

    3. Avatar photo Berny says:

      @Riley

Them re-farming frequencies when people are trying to use 4G, would that by definition leave the 4G frequency space “over subscribed” because there is a shortness of bandwidth on the air?

You can be saturated in different parts of the network, wireless (handset to tower) and wired (Tower -> aggregation -> core -> internet)

    4. Avatar photo keeper says:

“Hope they guarantee a minimum level,”

Hope you are prepared to pay for such – in which case a consumer grade best effort service is not for you

    5. Avatar photo keeper says:

      Gary,

kick up some stink on the phone, go to tech. – I ended up having my contract and fees waived due to bad performance.

  8. Avatar photo Shaukat says:

We live 10m to 20m away from the mast, in the west midlands – speeds we get on Three UK data only business sim, using a Huawei H138-380 router, is upwards of 500Mbs down and 52Mbs upload.

The router was purchased sim free.

Three UK data simcard on a 24 month contract is 6GBP Inc vat.

  9. Avatar photo Richard says:

just get a fixed line or give someone money for there wifi passowrd ,, dont clogg the the network up with this crap

    1. Avatar photo keeper says:

I agree – 2 of my neighbours have my wifi password and they pay £80 a month for a piece of my connection as it’s better than they are ever going to get and it helps me too.

  10. Avatar photo Alan says:

    Hi, first post here.

I received my THREE ZYXEL 5103 yesterday.

I am taking it slow as will be replacing my current Vodafone.

Initial tests were good 400/600 down & 3/20 up ( I am about 1km from local mast but will probably add an external antenna so that I have more convenient options for placement in the near future.

Most of my house is Ethernet cabled for TVs and main PC etc.

One thing I am unsure of yet is that I use SmartDNSproxy and am assuming I will be able to set the router up likewise.

Any tips from users would be appreciated and I will try and reciprocate when I have learned a little more. I am in Windsor for anyone local.

    Cheers

    Alan
