The second annual UK Fibre Awards event was held yesterday in London, which saw various broadband ISPs and full fibre network builders across several categories pick up awards for their achievements. Some of the winners included Wessex Internet for best rural and overall fibre provider, while CityFibre came top for fibre investment.
The event is being backed by telecoms / ICT centric media and event organisation firm BPL Business Media, with CityFibre as the headline sponsor. According to the website, the event “uniquely recognises sector leaders in a range of technical, business and achievement categories.”
The winners for each category appear to have been chosen by a judging panel of seven industry experts (here), including various senior managers, analysts and so forth. Admittedly, this is another event where the industry gives itself a pat on the back, which doesn’t include much representation of consumer opinion and seems similar to other award events from the ISPA and Connected Britain.
The list of winners for 2023 can be found below, although at the time of writing we haven’t been able to confirm the winners across every category yet (announcement expected shortly). We’ll update again as more winners are confirmed during the morning.

The full list of winners is now above.
mutual admiration society awarded themselves 😉
Was Oprah the host?
As good an excuse for a knees up on the investors’ tab as any.
Hmmm, Cityfibre were the headline sponsor and guess what?
They won an award!
Looks like a charade- assume Openreach didn’t entertain it as not shown in any category. Better use of time getting on with work and volumes!
With businesses going to the wall – I’m not sure that self congratulation will Pay bills ! Those also who have lost their jobs this year I’m sure are very pissed off
These awards are completely meaningless.
Just an excuse for a party.
Nothing I love more than BS award schemes.
Barely anything can be trusted.
Haha! What a joke! Do they think we’re stupid?
Cityfibre are the headline sponsors of the awards. Of course Cityfibre won an award and there’s absolutely no mention of BT Openreach anywhere.
Just makes the industry look ridiculous.
Waste of time effect and money.
Pat themselves on the back and screw the customer.
Complete and utter farce!
Fancy food and champagne paid for by Cityfibre’s Investors.
Is this done to impress the investors? Hey look we won an award!
Paying for Fibre Award ceremonies, putting on your best suits, quaffing fizzy wine, big grins for the cameras…
But it doesn’t change the reality that the Altnet market is simply saturated, there’s not enough customers to go around, it’s simply not sustainable, investors are starting to realise it’s not a viable business model.
