Users of the NetgemTV service, which usually ships to UK consumers as part of a set-to-box based Pay TV bundle from their broadband ISP, may be pleased to learn that they’ve added 15 additional channels to their platform “at no extra cost“. In addition, they’ve added 10 new games to their recently launched video game hub (total of 30).

The Cheshire East Council in England has announced that UK ISP Airband has so far covered 3,000 extra premises with their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network, which forms part of a £4.5m state aid supported contract that was signed back in January 2021 (here) under the Digital Cheshire programme.

Virgin Media and O2 (VMO2) has issued a general progress update on their various mobile and broadband ISP network upgrades, investment, and digital inclusion initiatives across Yorkshire in England, which among other things also confirms that Skipton (North Yorkshire) is the home of their first XGS-PON (FTTP) trial users.

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has today handed out £28m to three universities (York, Bristol and Surrey) to help them team-up with major telecoms companies, including Nokia, Ericsson and Samsung, to both design and build future 6G based mobile broadband networks.

Network access provider Openreach (BT) has just informed us that more broadband ISP traffic was carried across their UK network yesterday (Sunday 11th December 2022) than ever before – totalling 229PB (PetaBytes), which compares with 222PB on the previous highest day (5th December 2021).

The Welsh Government (WG) has released the Q3 2022 progress update on their £52.5m Phase 2 Superfast Cymru contract with Openreach (BT), which reveals that a total of 34,122 extra premises (up from 32,949 in Q2) have now gained access to their 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network.

Cityfibre has announced that they’ve begun construction work on their £30m project to cover the large Greater Manchester (England) town of Wigan with their new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network, which aims to “reach … almost every home and business“.

Mobile operator Vodafone UK has this morning announced that their ultrafast 5G (mobile broadband) network is now being deployed to cover a further five airports, such as the George Best Airport in Belfast and Newcastle International Airport. All were installed by Exchange Communications.

Openreach (BT) has today issued an update to their £15bn rollout of a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network, which “reformats the existing exchange areas already announced” and adds 12 new locations (mostly in London) to their deployment plan – covering an additional 184,806 homes and businesses.

Homes in the Cathedral City of Chester in Cheshire may be pleased to learn that Cityfibre has resumed their build of a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network. Work came to a halt in the summer (here) after the operator ended their relationship with local civil engineering partner Telent.

A recent report from banking giant Credit Suisse has warned that the availability of “cheap financing” for UK broadband infrastructure, which is helping to deploy a new generation of gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) networks, might be facing a growing squeeze that could impact future builds.

British satellite operator OneWeb, which is partly owned by the UK Government, has – for the first time – successfully launched 40 of their compact Low Earth Orbit (LEO) based ultrafast broadband satellites aboard a Falcon9 rocket from SpaceX at the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida (USA).

UK ISP Zen Internet has confirmed to ISPreview.co.uk that their work to make their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband packages available – nationwide – across Cityfibre’s entire network will take longer than originally announced, with completion now expected by the “end of 2023“.

Broadband ISP Lightning Fibre, which is currently deploying a Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across parts of Sussex and Kent in England, has today reduced the price of its entry-level 100Mbps residential package to £18 (until 31st Dec), launched a new 50Mbps (symmetric) social tariff and begun testing a 3Gbps package.

Good news. One man has been charged, and three others arrested (currently released on bail), in connection with several thefts of Openreach’s copper broadband and phone cables across Kent (England) during the late spring and early summer this year. The incidents caused significant service outages across several villages.
