Herefordshire UK Set £500,000 Aside for Rural Broadband Grants UPDATE

The Herefordshire County Council (HCC) has confirmed that they’ve set aside £500,000 to support a new broadband grant scheme under the joint Fastershire project with Gloucestershire County Council, which will provide funding to help isolated communities that are not yet part of the current roll-out programme.

O2 Extends Live 5G Mobile Network Coverage to 20 UK Cities

Mobile operator O2 UK (Telefonica) ended 2019 last night by announcing that they had switched-on their ultrafast 5G based mobile broadband network in a further 13 cities across the United Kingdom, which meant they finished the year with a total of 20 as planned. Internet Data Traffic Dips at UK ISP TalkTalk for Christmas Day

Customers of broadband ISP TalkTalk gobbled less data on Christmas Day 2019 (25th Dec) than a normal Wednesday. Overall internet traffic on the provider’s network peaked at 4.107Tbps (Terabits per second) this year (3.35Tbps in 2018), which compares with 5.876Tbps on the first Wednesday of this month (3.96Tbps in 2018).

BT TV Confirm Universal SD and HD Channels to Cease Next Month

BT to Purchase Entire UK Estate of InLinkUK WiFi Kiosks

BT has today announced a new deal that will see them bring all 494 of InLinkUK’s smart WiFi kiosks under their full ownership, which follows last weeks news (here) that the company created to deploy and manage the kiosks alongside BT, Intersection and advertising firm Primesight – InLink Limited – had called in the administrators.

EE UK Joins 4G Mobile Pilot on the London Underground Network

As expected EE (BT) has today announced that they will next year be joining O2, Vodafone and Transport for London (TfL) to help pilot a new 4G (mobile broadband and voice) network through tunnels and at station platforms on the London Underground (tube trains).

Openreach Delay SOGEA Broadband and Prep FTTC Price Cut

Openreach (BT) has delayed the launch of their Single Order Generic Ethernet Access (SOGEA / SOGFast) product, which enables UK people to buy a standalone FTTC (VDSL2 or G.fast) broadband ISP line without the analogue voice (phone), due to a concern over failure rates. The 40Mbps FTTC tier is also due another price cut.

50 Rural Monmouthshire Villages Targeted for FTTH Broadband

Residents in the tiny rural Monmouthshire village of Llanddewi Rhydderch in Wales now have a second 1Gbps capable speed option for broadband in the form of a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network, which is intended to complement their existing Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) trial. But another 50 villages could soon join them.
