One For All, which produces TV related equipment, has announced the launch of two new indoor TV aerials that include a built-in 4G (LTE) filter that it claims will reduce interference from related Mobile Broadband signals in the 800MHz spectrum (due to roll-out around the UK from late spring 2013).

ISP Gigaclear has begun work to install its new 1000Mbps (1Gbps) capable fibre optic broadband (FTTP) network around the small rural civil parish hamlet of Frilford and Frilford Heath (eventually including Cothill) in Oxfordshire (England), which will be priced from £37 per month.

UK ISP BE Broadband (O2) has released a new beta firmware v10.2.2.9 for its Technicolor TG582n (BE Box v2) broadband router that adds a number of new features, including preliminary IPv6 support, greater access control over other network devices and automatic WiFi channel selection for an improved wireless signal.

BTOpenreach, which maintains BT’s national telecoms network, has announced that their recent technical trial of the forthcoming 220Mbps (20Mbps upload) capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP product has gone without a hitch. The full pilot will now begin on 1st March 2013 as planned.

Mobile operator Vodafone has told this week’s Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona (Spain) that it will not return to offering a domestic focused fixed line home broadband product in the United Kingdom, although they will expand upon their broadband services for business clients.

Several major UK telecoms operators are reported to be bidding on contracts that will see 16 out of London’s 33 boroughs all deploying a new free wireless internet (wifi) service to local residents and visitors, which could also be used to help ease the strain on Mobile Broadband operators.

The European Commission (EC) has today committed £43 million (€50m) to help research future 5G (5th Generation) based Mobile Broadband technologies for launch by 2020, which could one day deliver peak service speeds of up to 10Gbps or possibly even 100Gbps (Gigabits per second).

Telecoms analyst firm Point Topic has suggested that internet access solutions which attract a low marginal cost, such as Mobile Broadband, Satellite and WiFi, are now likely to play a bigger then expected part in the UK and Europe’s strategy for expanding broadband coverage into rural areas.

Kent-based fixed wireless ISP VFast has become the latest internet provider to be hit by rodents with a seemingly insatiable appetite for fibre optic cables. In fact for almost a month the pesky critters have been busily attempting to nibble their way through one of BT’s key fibre spine cables in Canterbury, which supplies VFast.

The communications regulator, Ofcom, has today issued a Draft Statement that formally notifies the European Commission (EC) of their proposal to cut the price that ISPs, mobile operators and businesses pay to BT for wholesale Leased Line services at speeds of above 1Gbps in all parts of the UK except London and Hull.

TalkTalk Business, which back in 2011 warned SME’s that “domestic grade broadband is not designed to cope with the demands of running a business“, appears to have changed its tune. A large number of their customers have now received letters which confirm that they’ll soon be migrated to the ISPs residential TalkTalk Plus package.

The Welsh Government has today announced the first 8 locations to benefit from its part publicly funded £425m roll-out of superfast broadband ISP services across Wales (UK), which initially aims to make internet download speeds of up to 80Mbps available to 96% of Welsh premises by the end of 2015.

The latest Q4-2012 internet tariff analysis from Quantum-Web has claimed that an 86p (1 Euro) decline in the price of fibre optic based superfast broadband ISP tariffs can be equated to an increase of over 400,000 new subscribers in Europe between Q4-2009 and the end of last year.
