Rural broadband ISP Airband has announced that they’re currently tackling one of the “most challenging installations” of full fibre technology that they’ve “ever seen” in the historic North Devon (England) village of Clovelly, which sits perched on a cliff-top, complete with steep, narrow cobbled streets and 300 residents.

Ofcom has this morning announced that they will need “an additional two months” to undertake further analysis of Openreach’s “Equinox 2” discount scheme, which will delay the operator’s planned 1st April 2023 launch of cheaper wholesale prices on their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP products.

Mobile benchmarking firm Opensignal has published the results of their latest study, which reveals that the fastest UK city for 5G (mobile broadband) internet download speeds is Birmingham (162.7Mbps), while the West Midlands in England tops the table for fastest UK regions on 151.4Mbps.

Mobile operator Three UK has published their latest financial results, which reveals that over 4,250 sites (up from 2,200 last year) are now live with 5G – reflecting 60% UK outdoor population coverage. The average data (mobile broadband) usage per customer has also reached 25.1 GigaBytes per month (up from 19GB).

Budget-focused broadband ISP TalkTalk appears to be going through somewhat of a management shake-up after Virgin Media (VMO2) reportedly went cold on the idea of reaching a £3bn merger deal with the provider last year (here), which has left them with some decisions to make about the future.

Locals living near to the Shandon Place and Ashley Terrace bridge in Edinburgh (Scotland), which passes over a former railway line, have vented fury at CityFibre after the operator’s rollout of a new full fibre (FTTP) broadband ISP network broke the bridge during unauthorised work – leaving it closed since January.

Network access provider Openreach (BT) has announced that their new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network now covers over 800,000 premises across Scotland, which has been achieved via an investment of just £240 million (reflecting their “average UK build cost” of £300 per premises passed).

The latest annual study from Cable.co.uk has tested fixed broadband ISP packages from 219 countries to create a global price comparison, which finds that the UK ranks 76th cheapest (vs 92nd last year), with an average monthly cost of $34.19 (£28.42). But we rank 104th cheapest for average cost per megabit ($0.61).
