BT Has No General Plan to Disguise UK Superfast Broadband Street Cabinets

BTOpenreach, which manages access to BT’s national UK telecoms network, has confirmed to ISPreview.co.uk that it has no general plans to disguise street cabinets. The confirmation follows an earlier suggestion by the government’s culture spokesman, Viscount Younger, that “plans [were] afoot to camouflage” the big green FTTC boxes.

The ex-Military personnel will be used to help support the UK operators £2.5bn national roll out of superfast broadband (FTTC etc.) services.

The project aims to replace the old copper line products with ultra-fast fibre optic phone and broadband (e.g. 100Mbps+ FTTP) services.

Ofcom has approved BTOpenreach’s request to extend a connection price discount for its superfast broadband (FTTC) lines by two months, which cut the one-off cost from £80 to just £30 +vat when taken alongside a new phone line (WLR or MPF). Sadly only ISP customers in certain parts of England (UK) will benefit.
