The Group Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Anders Christensen, has accused the Aylesbury Vale District Council in Buckinghamshire of trying “falsely portray” the recent sale of the rural FTTH based Aylesbury Vale Broadband network (assets) to UK ISP Gigaclear as a success story.

The Aylesbury Vale District Council has handed control of Aylesbury Vale Broadband (assets / network) to UK ISP Gigaclear for an undisclosed sum, which will continue the operator’s rollout of “full fibre” (FTTH/P) ultrafast broadband services to rural villages in Buckinghamshire.

Dark fibre builder Cityfibre has signed a new 19 year framework agreement with UK ISP Commsworld for £15.7m, which is their “largest public sector award to date” and will extend the existing Gigabit capable fibre optic (FTTP) network in Glasgow (Scotland) to 506 city council owned sites.

As expected Cityfibre has today signed a new £1.7 million contract that will extend their existing fibre optic based Public Service Network (PSN) in the city of Aberdeen (Scotland) by approximately 17km, which should reach an additional 57 public sector locations.

The Aylesbury Vale District Council in Buckinghamshire (England, UK) has agreed to conduct an independent inquiry into the controversial Aylesbury Vale Broadband project, which was setup by the council to roll-out an ultrafast rural “full fibre” (FTTH) network but has since run into difficulties.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has today determined that it is “not materially misleading” to describe broadband services that use fibre optic cables for only part of the connection to consumers’ homes (e.g. FTTC) as “fibre broadband“, much to the annoyance of UK MPs and critics.
