Openreach has decided to extend the UK ISP trial phase for their new Single Order Generic Ethernet Access (SOGEA) product until 1st October 2018, which will one day enable consumers to buy a standalone FTTC “fibre broadband” (VDSL2 or G.fast) line without the voice (phone) service.

Manx Telecom‘s roll-out of a 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) ultrafast broadband ISP network on the Isle of Man is making progress. The operator now expects to reach 13% of local premises (4,600 homes and businesses) by the end of 2018.

The telecoms regulator has today published an update to last year’s annual Connected Nations report, which uses more recent data from 2018 to provide the latest coverage statistics for UK mobile and fixed line broadband networks. For example, “full fibre” (FTTH/P) now reaches 4% (1.2 million premises).

Low cost UK internet provider TalkTalk has today officially launched their new range of unlimited G.fast based ultrafast home broadband packages, which offer download speeds of ‘up to’ 150Mbps (30Mbps upload) and 300Mbps (50Mbps upload) from just £40 per month (including line rental).

Customers of KCOM’s broadband ISP in Hull (East Yorkshire, UK) can now choose from a new range of bundles, which give subscribers the choice about how much data, calls or download speed (up to 400Mbps on FTTP) they’d like to add (as opposed to picking from the usual pre-selected bundles).

Telecoms operator Vodafone UK has today launched a new range of bundles that includes their FTTC based superfast home broadband ISP service alongside a phone line and a selection of four SIM-Only 4G mobile tariffs, which when taken together could save subscribers a little extra money.

The Scottish Government has today announced that 95.5% of homes and businesses across Scotland should be able to order a “high speed fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) based internet line, although this figure drops to just 92.7% when considering those able to access “superfast broadband” speeds of 24Mbps+.

Openreach (BT) has announced that they intend to conduct a new Proof of Concept (PoC) to test the impact of applying Seamless Rate Adaption (SRA) to their 40-80Mbps capable VDSL2 based Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) broadband lines, which could help to keep such lines stable.

Openreach (BT) has confirmed that they will imminently begin withdrawing their Long Reach VDSL (LR-VDSL) broadband technology trial from several deployments across the UK, which at one point had been touted as way of helping to deliver on the government’s 10Mbps broadband USO.

A new study has estimated that around 4.1% of premises in the United Kingdom are likely to be affected by full to capacity FTTC (VDSL2) based “fibre broadband” street cabinets on Openreach’s (BT) network, which is up from 3% last year. Related premises may be unable to order the faster ISP service.

Sky UK’s sibling NOW TV video streaming and ISP platform has cut the price of their unlimited 17Mbps “Brilliant Broadband” (ADSL) and 38Mbps “Fat Fibre” (FTTC / VDSL2) packages for the first 12 months of service, which takes their monthly prices to just £15 and £20 respectively.

A meeting of the UK Wireless Internet Service Providers Association has named the four suppliers that are bidding on Scotland’s R100 project, which aspires to make “superfast broadband” (30Mbps+) available to 100% of the country by the end of 2021 (March 2022 as a financial year).
