Portsmouth-based UK ISP toob, which was setup by a group Vodafone’s former directors and is being supported by an investment of £75m (here), has announced that the first customers have now gone live on their new symmetric 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network in Southampton (Hampshire).

Mobile operator and ISP Vodafone UK has a long “will they, won’t they” history when it comes to the idea of offering a TV (IPTV) service alongside their fixed home broadband and phone plans. Nevertheless they’ve now launched a new “Extra” tier that adds an Apple 4K TV (IPTV) set-top-box and a 1 year Apple TV+ subscription.

The incumbent broadband ISP for Hull and East Yorkshire (England), KCOM, last night scooped the 2019 European Broadband Award for “Quality and affordability of services,” which predominantly reflected their £85m effort to roll-out a new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network across their patch.

The owner of UK fixed wireless broadband ISP Rural Technologies Wales (Hen Beudy Services Ltd) has revealed that they intend to start deploying a new Gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network, which will initially begin in Wales before extending across the border into the western counties of England.

Wireless and fibre optic UK ISP Airband, which holds a number of multi-million pound state aid fuelled contracts to deploy “superfast broadband” (30Mbps+) across rural parts of Devon, has attracted a furious response by erecting new telegraph poles in a village that previously had them removed following a campaign.

The Milton Keynes Council has issued a “red warning” against Cityfibre’s £40m roll-out of a new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband network – supported by ISP partner Vodafone UK, which is due to the level of complaints being made against the provider and inspectors identifying “poor practise” in their work.

Fixed wireless access and fibre optic ISP LonsdaleNET (Lonsdale Network Services), which have been running since 2012, has revealed that they intend to extend their 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network into more areas within the remote rural Eden District of Cumbria.

Rural full fibre ISP Gigaclear, which only very recently hiked their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband prices for new customers (here), will today introduce some big discounts on two of their top packages – 100Mbps and 300Mbps – that knocks £15 off the monthly price and makes activation free (saving £300 over the contract term).

Cityfibre has awarded construction firm Granemore Group the £39m contract to build their new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband ISP network for the East Midlands (England) town of Northampton, which is being supported by UK ISP partner Vodafone.

At a time when most broadband ISPs are discounting their prices for Black Friday it’s been spotted that one rural full fibre (FTTP) provider, Gigaclear, has done exactly the opposite. As well as introducing a new 100Mbps (symmetrical speed) tier and Mesh WiFi system, they’ve also hiked the monthly prices of their old plans by an extra £4.

Ofcom are consulting on a new proposal that could remove a few key pieces of regulation from Openreach (BT), which is intended to support their analogue telephone (WLR) to digital voice (VoIP) and copper to “full fibre” (FTTP) Exchange Upgrade trials (here and here) in Mildenhall (Suffolk) and Salisbury (Wiltshire) respectively

At present if you want to take a home broadband service on Cityfibre’s new Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) network then, under an exclusivity agreement, you have to get it from their UK ISP partner Vodafone (Gigafast Broadband). But if a reported contract renegotiation succeeds then more ISPs could join (TalkTalk, Sky Broadband etc.).

City focused FTTP/B broadband ISP Hyperoptic, which claims to cover more than 400,000 UK premises, has gone live with its Black Friday discounts for 2019. As part of that they’re offering no connection fees across all of their services (use promo code BF19 on orders) and those taking a 12 month term will get a giftcard worth £50 – £75.

Fibre optic network builder Cityfibre, which is currently aiming to rollout a 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband network to cover 5 million UK premises across 60 cities and towns by the end of 2025 (here), has created the new role of Chief Delivery Officer (CDO) and appointed Richard Thorpe to fill it.

Broadband ISP WightFibre, which is currently investing £35m to rollout a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) network to over 60,000 of the 70,000 homes on the Isle of Wight (South Coast of Hampshire) by the end of 2021, has today become the latest UK provider to launch a Whole Home WiFi service using Plume’s platform.

The latest results (Q1 FY20) from TalkTalk have revealed that the UK ISP still hasn’t sealed a deal to sell FibreNation and its rollout of a new “full fibre” broadband network, although they did see strong take-up of their FTTC packages and confirmed plans to launch ultrafast FTTP via Openreach “before the end of the calendar year.“
