Study Finds Gigabit FTTH Broadband Communities Have Higher GDP

A new study from the Analysis Group, which was conducted on behalf of the American Fibre-to-the-Home Council, has claimed that communities with widely available 1Gbps (1000Mbps) broadband access through FTTH style fibre optic connectivity have per capita GDP that is 1.1% higher than communities with little to no availability of gigabit services.

Virgin Media has today confirmed our report from last month and said they’re teaming-up with the John Henry Group to trial a new fibre optic based narrow-trenching deployment technology in the large village of Papworth Everard, which resides near the city of Cambridge (England). UPD KC Claim Brantingham is Britain’s Village with the Fastest Broadband

The incumbent ISP for Hull and its surrounding areas in East Yorkshire, KC (KCOM), has announced that they’re “laying claim” to the title of “village with the fastest broadband speeds in Britain” after pegging Brantingham for the achievement thanks to its average download speed of 78Mbps. Gigaclear and B4RN may have a thing or two to say about that.
