Network access provider Openreach (BT) has today provided a progress update on the difference that their innovations (e.g. drones, mini-exchanges, LiDAR-powered planning etc.) are making to their ongoing roll-out of Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP technology. This network now covers 20 million premises.

Mobile and broadband operator Sure, which serves the English Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey, has confirmed that customers of the Airtel Vodafone service have started to be migrated on to their network. The move follows last year’s £48m deal to build a new “world-class” 5G mobile broadband network across the islands as part of Sure’s acquisition of the operator.

Hull-based alternative UK network operator MS3, which has deployed their full fibre (FTTP) broadband ISP network across 234,000 premises (207k RFS) in the North of England, has announced that they’ve just connected their 20,000th customer in the Hull and Humber region (up from 19,000 on 3rd July 2025).

Carlisle-based broadband ISP Grain, which recently secured a major £225m funding boost to continue their expansion (here), has today announced that they’ve added the Lancashire (England) town of Nelson – home to a population of almost 30,000 people – to their build plan for a new full fibre (FTTP) network.

New internet provider NuFibre, which was recently established by the existing owners of Yayzi Broadband (here), have signed an agreement to adopt broadband routers and mesh WiFi extenders from European network kit manufacturer Genexis. The ISP will thus become the first such UK provider to deploy the Genexis Elite HX30 residential gateway (router) and Home CX30 WiFi extender.

Network operator nexfibre and supporting broadband ISP partner Virgin Media (O2), which share some of the same parentage, have today announced that they’ve expanded the reach of their symmetric 2Gbps speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network to more than 12,000 homes in the Lincolnshire market town of Sleaford “for the first time“.

Infracapital-backed ISP Fibrus, which has been rolling out a full fibre broadband network across N.Ireland and Cumbria (England), has published their audited accounts for the year to March 2025. The results reveal that their network now covers 440k premises (up from 410k on 2nd May 2025) and EBITDA improved by £13m year-on-year, but they also made a pre-tax loss of £57.6m.

Edinburgh-based UK alternative network GoFibre, which is rolling out a gigabit broadband (FTTP) network across remote rural parts of Scotland and Northern England, has today signed a new deal with JCT600 Vehicle Leasing Solutions (VLS) to deliver a 140-vehicle fleet in order to support their network deployments.

Network operator Openreach (BT) has today announced the official launch of their new telecare migration services across the UK. The service is designed to help UK consumers with old analogue based phone (PSTN / WLR) and medical telecare systems to safely migrate to modern broadband-based (FTTP etc.) connections with digital phone (IP-based) services.

Abingdon-based broadband ISP Gigaclear, which has built their full fibre (FTTP) network to cover 600,000 premises (mostly in remote rural parts of England) and is home to 150,000 customers, has today announced that they’ve adopted Vyntelligence’s AI video technology – the first UK retail fibre provider to do so – to improve customer installation journeys by reducing unnecessary work.

Network access provider Openreach (BT) has today revealed that broadband data traffic across their UK full fibre (FTTP) network alone increased by more than 35% between Jan and June 2025, compared to the same period in 2024. The busiest day so far was on 21st Feb, when a large Fortnite (video game) patch saw users gobble a total of 372PB (PetaBytes).

Some 43 homes and businesses around remote rural parts of Moray in the Scottish Highlands have gained access to gigabit broadband speeds thanks to a new deployment by local ISP WiFi Scotland. The provider was able to harness public funding via the R100 Voucher Scheme (SBVS) to connect premises around the Craigellachie and Ben Aigan areas.

Alternative network operator Freedom Fibre, which has so far grown their FTTP (XGS-PON) based gigabit broadband network to cover 350,000 premises across various parts of England and North Wales, has this morning announced the expansion of its established partnership with PlatformX Communications (formerly TalkTalk Wholesale).

Internet provider Lit Fibre, which harnesses CityFibre’s national UK full fibre (FTTP) network (covering c.4.5 million premises), has this afternoon announced the launch of three new line-only broadband packages for business customers – offering symmetric speeds from 500Mbps and up to 2.4Gbps, with contract options of 36, 24 and 12 months available.
