Sister UK ISPs Brsk and YouFibre (Netomnia) will today launch special Black Friday pricing across their range of broadband packages. On top of that, Brsk also confirmed that their new WiFi 7 routers will, from today (1st Oct 2025), be included as standard for all new customer orders (YouFibre did the same in August – here).

Hampshire-based alternative network operator and UK ISP toob, which has built a gigabit speed full fibre (FTTP) broadband network across parts of South England and also harnesses CityFibre’s network in other areas, has this morning announced that they’ve just added 33 new towns and cities (1.1 million additional premises) to their coverage via CityFibre.

City-focused broadband ISP Hyperoptic, which claims to have deployed their full fibre (FTTP/B) network to cover 1.9 million UK premises, has told ISPreview they’re NOT currently seeking more funding to keep their network expansion going. The company’s latest accounts to the end of 2024 show they generated maiden adjusted earnings of £2.7m in 2024 (vs a loss of £4.7m in 2023) and gross profit rose 20% to £87m.

Alternative rural UK broadband ISP Airband, which has built a full fibre (FTTP) and wireless (FWA) network that covers parts of Wales and South West England, has shared a copy of their latest group accounts with ISPreview and revealed that they expect to reach EBITDA positivity in 2028. But the provider is still facing a “material uncertainty” over its funding.

In recent weeks ISPreview has started to see more indications that customers of UK ISP Virgin Media (O2), particularly those covered by their XGS-PON based Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband lines (either via coax upgrades or nexfibre), may soon see a package refresh and possibly even the launch of a 5000Mbps (5Gbps) symmetric speed tier.

Rochdale-based UK broadband ISP Zen Internet has today announced that MS3 have become the latest alternative network to sign a wholesale partnership deal. The move means that Zen’s customers will soon be able to order packages via the new FTTP network and no doubt the altnet will also join their Fibre Hub (network aggregation platform for use by other ISPs).

Broadband, mobile and telecoms giant BT has today published a new economic modelling study from Assembly Research, which examines how the ongoing migration from legacy networks (PSTN/WLR, 2G mobile etc.) to All-IP (Internet Protocol) services could “deliver billions in benefits” (£3bn) to the UK’s critical national infrastructure sectors.

At the start of this year Quickline, which is building a rural gigabit broadband network across parts of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire (England), announced that they and the Lincolnshire Institute of Technology (LIoT) would support 500 students through a bursary scheme (i.e. money to help with study, travel and childcare costs). The first 50 students have now benefitted from this.

The CEO of BT Group, Allison Kirkby, appears to be gearing up for the government’s annual 2025 Budget announcement by complaining that the operator pays “10 times the amount our peers pay in countries like Germany and the Netherlands” on things like business rates, energy levies and other costs associated with regulation and compliance.

National network operator Openreach (BT) has this morning confirmed that their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network, which offers broadband speeds of up to 1,800Mbps to homes via hundreds of UK ISPs, has now covered 20 million premises (up from 18.3m on 1st May 2025) and take-up has risen to around 38%.

The Co-Founder and Chairman of alternative rural broadband ISP Fibrus, Conal Henry, will tomorrow tell the Connected Britain event that Government subsidies (e.g. the £5bn Project Gigabit programme) are being “wasted” due to Ofcom’s rules allegedly making the roll-out of rural broadband “unnecessarily expensive“.

New techy-focused broadband ISP Olilo, which only launched a few short weeks ago (here), has this week announced that they’ve just placed their first consumer Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) orders via the aquila platform from AllPoints Fibre Networks’ (APFN). The latter is a wholesale platform that aggregates connectivity from several different full fibre networks.

Network operator nexfibre and supporting broadband ISP partner Virgin Media (O2), which share some of the same parentage, have today announced that they’ve expanded the reach of their symmetric 2Gbps speed full fibre (FTTP) network to more than 21,000 homes in the West Sussex seaside town of Littlehampton “for the first time“.

Network access provider Openreach (BT) has today provided more details to ISPreview on their future plans for a trial of full fibre broadband (FTTP) using 10Gbps capable XGS-PON technology in early 2026. The trial is planned to reach about 40,000 premises in Guildford and push download speeds from ISPs up to a blistering 8.5Gbps (8,500Mbps).
