ISP Sky Broadband UK Set for Imminent Openreach FTTP Launch

After a long wait our sources inform us that Sky Broadband (Comcast) are imminently due to add support for Openreach’s (BT) national Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network to their range of both “superfast” and “ultrafast” packages, which looks increasingly likely to go live later this month (provided some issues can be ironed out first).

The BT Group’s results for Q3 2019/20 (financial) have revealed that Openreach has expanded their “ultrafast broadband” ISP network to cover 4.88 million UK premises (up from 4.2m last quarter), which includes 2.156m on FTTP (up from 1.81m) and 2.725m on G.fast (up from 2.42m). But the Gov’s Huawei decision will cost £500m!

ISP BT UK to Honour Ultra Cheap Ultrafast Broadband Mistake

BT has kindly agreed to honour the incredibly cheap FTTP and G.fast based “ultrafast broadband” (FTTP / G.fast) packages that were recently sold to a “small number of customers.” Unfortunately the packages had been incorrectly priced due to a “technical error” but those who benefited can still enjoy the savings.

Openreach (BT) has delayed the launch of their Single Order Generic Ethernet Access (SOGEA / SOGFast) product, which enables UK people to buy a standalone FTTC (VDSL2 or G.fast) broadband ISP line without the analogue voice (phone), due to a concern over failure rates. The 40Mbps FTTC tier is also due another price cut.

Connected Nations 2019 – 3 Million UK Premises Can Get Full Fibre

Ofcom has today published their Connection Nations 2019 UK digital infrastructure report, which reveals that “full fibre” (FTTP) broadband ISP networks now cover 10% of premises (up from 6% last year) and “ultrafast” (300Mbps+) lines reach 53% (up from 49%). Sadly geographic 4G cover from all operators is unchanged at 66%.

The UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has begun a consultation on the proposed introduction of a new “bulk upgrade process,” which requires an exclusion in Openreach’s (BT) quality of service regulation but would make it more efficient for them to upgrade slower lines to FTTC (VDSL2) based broadband ISP connections.

ISP Aquiss Shuns “wasteful” G.fast Broadband in Favour of FTTP

Shropshire-based UK ISP Aquiss has informed their customers that – after conducting “months of trials” – they will not be launching “ultrafast broadband” packages based off Openreach’s hybrid fibre G.fast service, which the provider has described as being a “resource wasteful technology.” Instead they’ll focus on FTTP.

Zen Internet Talks Ending the Fibre Tax and Working with Altnet ISPs

Zen Internet UK ISP Drops Small Business Broadband Prices

BT FTTP and G.fast Broadband Cover Tops 4.2 Million UK Premises

BT Group’s latest results to the end of September 2019 (Q2 19/20 financial) confirm that Openreach’s “ultrafast broadband” (100Mbps+) ISP network has increased its coverage to total 4.2 million premises (up from 3.7m last quarter), which includes 1.81m on FTTP (up from 1.51m) and 2.42m on hybrid fibre G.fast (up from 2.16m).
