A new ruling against Plusnet by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) means that UK business ISPs will now also need to combine the price of phone line rental and broadband when advertising related packages, which is a rule that has previously only applied to residential services.

Comparison site Cable has published the winners of a huge new ISP survey, which interviewed 16,753 UK broadband customers to identify the best providers via five categories (reliability, value for money, customer service, speed and switching). Virgin Media and Plusnet came top.

After unceremoniously cutting the upload speeds of their ‘Unlimited Fibre‘ (up to 38Mbps FTTC download) broadband package from 19.5Mbps to just 1.9Mbps in 2015 (here), Plusnet has now decided to boost their upstream speeds part of the way back ‘up to’ 9.5Mbps.

UK ISP Plusnet has launched a new promotion that cuts the price of their unlimited ‘up to’ 38Mbps (FTTC) “fibre broadband” and phone line rental bundle from £33.98 to just £22.99 a month for the first 18 months of service (new customers). The £25 one-off action fee has also been removed.

27th September, 2017 (7 Comments)

Broadband providers Virgin Media and Sky Broadband have today been praised by Ofcom’s Q2 2017 UK consumer complaints report after they received fewer gripes than any other ISP for their service. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for BT and TalkTalk, which attracted the most complaints.

22nd September, 2017 (13 Comments)

The latest biannual survey of UK phone and broadband providers by consumer magazine Which? has once again named Zen Internet as the best overall ISP (85% for customer satisfaction), but the same could not be said for TalkTalk that continues to languish at the bottom on a score of 40%.

15th September, 2017 (15 Comments)

Internet provider Plusnet has “wholeheartedly” apologised to one of their broadband subscribers, who had contacted the ISP in the hope of getting his Direct Debit date changed but instead found his surname being substituted with the C-word (hint, it’s not cat) by a call centre worker.

16th August, 2017 (2 Comments)

Budget ISP Plusnet has launched a series of discounts that will be available to new customers, which reduces the price of their “fibre broadband” (FTTC) bundles for the first 12 months of service and adds a £50 bonus on top (cashback or mastercard reward).

6th July, 2017 (4 Comments)

Low cost ISP Plusnet has cut the monthly price of their superfast “fibre broadband” (FTTC) + phone (line rental) packages for new customers and on top of that they’ve also removed the £25 one-off activation fee until the 12th July next week (a 12 month contract term is applicable).

30th June, 2017 (12 Comments)

Internet traffic prioritisation has been completely removed from Plusnet’s residential broadband service(s), which is because the ISP claims to have been “investing heavily in its network” and as a result their platform now has enough “capacity and resilience” that prioritisation is no longer needed.

The first half of 2017 has seen another rise in average fixed line broadband download speeds to 28.21Mbps, albeit mostly fuelled by the on-going migration of consumers from older ADSL lines and on to newer “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) services. Meanwhile EE is still king for Mobile Broadband.

A case of bad timing today as budget ISP Plusnet has cut their UK broadband and phone bundle prices, albeit on the same day as the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has also banned two of their radio adverts for failing to be “presented in a clear and intelligible manner.”

26th April, 2017 (9 Comments)

Customers of low cost ISP Plusnet have today been informed that the price they pay for their broadband and phone bundles will be increased from 29th June 2017, which is a move that follows a similar development from parent operator BT (here) at the start of this year.
