Some customers of the BT Vision TV (IPTV) service could this weekend lose access to the Sky Sports 1 and 2 TV channels unless they have a good standard broadband connection or take the operators superfast BTInfinity (FTTC) service alongside their package.

The communications regulator, Ofcom, has opened a new competition probe after UK telecoms giant BT complained that the terms on which Sky (Sky Broadband) offered wholesale supply of its Sky Sports 1 and 2 TV channels to their rival YouView (IPTV) platform “amount to an abuse of dominance“.

Some of the country’s broadband ISPs have told ISPreview.co.uk that Rights Holders are putting pressure on them to prevent their broadband customers from being able to access two extra website (EZTV and Yify-Torrents), which have both been accused of facilitating internet copyright infringement (piracy).

Following this week’s controversial meeting with the government’s culture secretary, Maria Miller, four of the United Kingdom’s biggest broadband ISPs (BT, Virgin Media, TalkTalk and Sky Broadband) have agreed to collectively commit £1 million over the next 4 years to “crack down” on the creation and distribution of online child abuse content.

Sky Broadband (BSkyB) has launched several new promotions including one that offers their unlimited broadband and free weekend calls bundle at half price (£5) for 12 months (6 months half price on their superfast FTTC package) or FREE if you take the Sky Sports pack. A £100 M&S Voucher is also available on their TV bundle.

Rumours that Sky Broadband could be about to cut its internet and or phone prices (here) in order to counter the launch of BT’s new FREE TV Sport service (here) will have to be tempered against the sudden appearance of a 10% price rise warning for Sky TV subscribers.

Sky Broadband (BSkyB) is reportedly ready to slash the price of its internet, phone and TV bundles as part of an effort to counter the launch of BT’s Sport service (here), which effectively bundled free access to live weekly matches from the Barclays Premier League (Football) and Rugby alongside its broadband products.

Internet provider BE Broadband (aka – BE Unlimited), which is now owned by BSkyB (Sky Broadband), has been told by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) that they can no longer claim to offer “unlimited downloads” after the ISP threatened to disconnect customers that make heavy use of their service.

BT, Sky Broadband (BSkyB) and Virgin Media have all now confirmed that they plan to join TalkTalk (HomeSafe) in launching an automatic network level filtering service in the UK, which would block access to websites that contain “adult” content.

Cable operator Virgin Media Business has detailed its new £49 million backhaul network capacity deal with BSkyB (Sky Broadband). Under the agreement Virgin will connect around a third of Sky’s unbundled (LLU) local UK telephone exchanges with Sky’s own wholly owned nationwide broadband network.

ISP Sky Broadband (BSkyB) has started offering 3 months free Sky Line Rental with its unlimited broadband package, which saves up to £43.50 off the normal price (£14.50 a month) and means you only have to pay from £10 a month for the broadband and free weekend calls part (£7.50 if you have Sky TV).

The latest quarterly results from O2 UK (BE Broadband) appear to suggest that the ISPs fixed line home broadband customers have been climbing over themselves to escape the forthcoming migration to Sky Broadband (BSkyB) as subscriber figures fell by a staggering -40,700 in Q1-2013 to total 519,400.
