An intervention by ISPreview.co.uk appears to have encouraged Vodafone to finally try and fix a long running problem with their UK home broadband ISP platform, which for many months or possibly even years has been hampering the ability of their customers to access the popular online image sharing service Imgur.

The latest crowd-sourced study of Mobile Broadband performance from Tutela has been published for May 2018, which reveals that EE and Vodafone continue to dominate for 4G data speeds and latency, although Three UK holds the top spot when it comes to older 3G connections.

New and upgrading Pay Monthly mobile customers of Vodafone UK can now benefit from a new 30 Day Service Guarantee, which allows you to cancel your contract “without penalty” if you are “not totally satisfied” with any aspect of their plan (including coverage, customer service or even not getting on with a new device).

The first six months of 2018 recorded another rise in average fixed home broadband download speeds to 33.29Mbps (7.82Mbps upload) among the top 10 ISPs, which continues to be fuelled by the rising adoption of faster FTTC, FTTP and Cable lines. Average mobile data speeds also hit 18.87Mbps (5.02Mbps upload).

Urban focused fibre optic (FTTP/H) network builder Cityfibre has officially removed itself from the London Stock Exchange’s international AIM market for smaller companies, which occurs at the same time as Connect Infrastructure Bidco conclude their £537.8m acquisition of the company.

A new crowd-sourced study of Mobile operator performance from Tutela has revealed that people who visit the UK (e.g. tourists) can expect to experience significantly slower Mobile Broadband (4G and 3G) speeds (average 10.25Mbps) than resident customers (18.15Mbps). The slowest operator for both is Three UK.

The trade body for Three UK, Vodafone, O2 and EE (Mobile UK) and National Parks England have today come together to announce a “landmark agreement“, which aims to help boost the roll-out of new mobile infrastructure (4G) while still “respecting the beauty and sensitivity of the nation’s national parks.”

Mobile operator Vodafone has countered EE’s announcement of a 5G trial in London (here) by confirming that they too will be testing the future 1Gbps capable mobile technology between October and December 2018, albeit in 7 UK cities: Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, Liverpool, London and Manchester.

A new online RootMetrics survey of 1000 mobile customers has found that EE and Three UK have the highest levels of satisfaction with Mobile Broadband speeds (57% and 58% respectively), while O2 is bottom. Overall 79% would be willing to pay “marginally” more for something faster and more reliable (like 5G).

The UK government’s new accord with churches, which was supposed to make it easier for church spires to be used by network providers in order to help spread faster broadband and mobile across rural areas, has reportedly only made sluggish progress due to disputes over hefty access charges etc.

BT and three other broadband and mobile operators have today won their battle in the Supreme Court with Cartier, which challenged whether it was right for them to suffer the costs of implementing blocks against websites that were found to be selling counterfeit goods (i.e. abuse of Trade Mark).

Fibre optic network builder Cityfibre has appointed Allan McEwan to be the City Development Manager for Aberdeen in Scotland, which is set to benefit from a joint £40m project with UK ISP Vodafone to deploy a new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband network by around 2021.

Network builder Cityfibre and UK ISP MLL Telecom have opened up their new 24km long Gigabit fibre optic broadband and Ethernet infrastructure to local businesses in the city of Stirling (Scotland). The network has been live since last year (here) but initially it was only open to public sector sites (Public Service Network).

The outgoing CEO of Vodafone Group, Vittorio Colao, has told an investors meeting, which was discussing their plans for next generation broadband ISP and mobile infrastructure, that they’re still talking with BT (Openreach) about the possibility of an agreement on fibre services but they’re not yet in the “right place.”

The latest Q1 2018 (calendar) results from Vodafone UK reveal that their fixed line broadband base grew by +65,000 in the quarter to total 382,000 (up from +39K added in Q4 2017) and their 4G  mobile can now cover 99% of the UK population. Meanwhile the operator’s group CEO, Vittorio Colao, is to be replaced.

More than 50 MPs have signed a letter by the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Rural Services that calls on the government’s digital secretary, Matt Hancock, to ensure that 95% of the UK’s landmass can access a mobile service from all operators (Three UK, Vodafone, EE and O2) by the end of 2022.
