Apparently you can never have too many alternative full fibre broadband ISP networks, so here are two more with separate plans to expand across the United Kingdom in the near future – Westnetworks Innovations (WestWiFi) and FACTCO (Ecodial). Both providers already have some presence in the market.

Fixed wireless broadband ISP Wildanet has extended their network to the market town of Liskeard and claimed that it is now Cornwall’s (England) first location to benefit from the “fastest level of broadband speeds available” at 1Gbps, except its not and the fastest consumer package on their site is only 50Mbps.

Rural broadband developer Broadway Partners (aka – ISP Broadway Broadband) has today reached an interesting new agreement that will enable them to harness Western Power‘s low voltage poles. The deal will be used to support their on-going deployment of gigabit-capable “full fibre” (FTTP) infrastructure to homes.

The latest independent data has predicted that 2.07% (up from 1.8% in May 2020) of UK premises could be affected by full to capacity FTTC (VDSL2) based “fibre broadband” street cabinets on Openreach’s (BT) network (this can stop you from ordering a new service), but some areas are being hit harder than others.

Carmarthenshire-based ISP Dyfed Superfast (Dyfed IT), which supplies wireless broadband services to premises across rural parts of Wales, has acquired rival network Pembs WiFi for an undisclosed sum and aims to extend gigabit broadband coverage. The latter had been building a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network.

New UK ISP Beacons Telecom (related Facebook page) has today revealed some of the first details about their plans to deploy a Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based gigabit-capable broadband network across rural parts of Wales, which is already starting to connect some of its first customers.

Vodafone has just become the first UK mobile operator to switch-on a live 4G Open Radio Access Network (OpenRAN) site, which could help to cut the cost of building new networks by standardising the design and functionality of hardware and software. Separately they’ve also tested Universal Customer Premises Equipment (uCPE).

Rural operator Broadway Partners (ISP Broadway Broadband), which aims to roll-out their “gigabit-capable … fibre” network to cover 500,000 UK homes and businesses by the end of 2022, has announced a new £2m scheme to help improve connectivity across rural Monmouthshire in Wales.

The UK Government has today confirmed a series of changes to both the Electronic Communications Code (ECC) and Mobile infrastructure planning, which when taken together are intended to help boost the on-going deployment of both “gigabit-capable” broadband and 5G mobile networks (as well as the Shared Rural Network).

The Welsh Government (WG) has just announced that their Phase 2 Superfast Cymru contract with BT (Openreach), which is currently building a 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network to cover 26,000 premises by March 2021 (here and here), is to be extended to reach 39,000 premises.

The latest independent model has estimated that the H1 2020 coverage of “full fibre” (FTTP) broadband ISP networks across the UK has risen to 14.8% of premises (up from 11% in H2 2019), while 61.7% can get 100Mbps+ (up from 59.3%) and 22.1% are within reach of “gigabit” (1Gbps) speeds.

Residents in the rural Pembrokeshire (Wales) village of Nolton Haven were last week left with a smelly problem after a team of Openreach (BT) engineers, which have been busy deploying Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband in the area, managed to install one of their telegraph poles through a mains sewer.

The Pembrokeshire (Sir Benfro) council in South West Wales has today announced that Broadway Partners (UK ISP Broadway Broadband) have been chosen to build two new pilot networks in rural parts of the county, which will aim to deliver “gigabit-capable” broadband speeds to local premises. More pilots are expected to follow.

The Welsh Government (WG) has today issued a short update on their various broadband schemes, which among other things reveals that 79,000 properties (categorised as “white premises”) still do not have access to “superfast broadband” (30Mbps+) and won’t benefit from any future roll-out plans within the next 3 years.

Fixed wireless broadband UK ISP Secure Web Services, which currently offers a “superfast broadband” network at speeds of up to 30Mbps (5Mbps upload) across some rural parts of Shropshire, Herefordshire and Powys, has stated that they’re planning to upgrade their network to offer “gigabit broadband” (1Gbps+) for homes.

Mobile operator Vodafone has announced that the small village of Devauden in the Wye Valley (Wales) has become the first to receive a faster 4G based mobile (mobile broadband) service as part of the new £1bn Shared Rural Network (SRN), which aims to help extend geographic 4G cover to 95% of the UK by the end of 2025.
