Network builder Netomnia, which aims to deploy their 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network to cover 1 million UK homes and businesses by the end of 2023 (here), has today announced that they’ve expanded their rollout from England and begun to enter their first location in Wales.

Rural focused UK broadband ISP Voneus, which is currently busy spreading their fixed wireless (FWA) and Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) networks across rural parts of 20 counties, has managed to appoint one of Virgin Media’s former Central Finance Directors, Ed Dannan, to be its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

A large group of farming and landowners’ organisations have launched a new survey to examine the current state of broadband connectivity in Wales. The survey is partly designed to help them understand how well-equipped rural communities are for forthcoming farming regulations, which require vast amounts of online forms.

Alternative UK network ISP People’s Fibre, which started building a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network in 2020 and soon ran into some challenges with competition from rivals, has fallen into administration due to a “breakdown in the relationship” between the company’s director and investors.

Several alternative UK network (AltNets) builders, including Gigaclear and CityFibre, among others, are reportedly set to launch a legal challenge against Ofcom’s recent approval of Openreach’s “Equinox” offer (here), which introduces a “major” price cut (details) to the incumbents Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband products.

The UK Government’s £5bn Project Gigabit rollout programme appears to have quietly confirmed that they now aim to deliver “full” 1Gbps broadband coverage to the final 20% of hardest to reach premises by 2030 (effectively universal coverage), at least where it is “value for money to do so.”

Openreach (BT) has today officially added another 170 new towns and villages (covering 1.5 million premises) to the UK rollout plan of their 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network, which are all the same as those we published last month (here). The news comes as they reach 6 million premises passed.

Ofcom has today finalised the changes that were first confirmed in July to improve how BT handles delivery of the UK’s Universal Service Obligation (USO), which aims to bring faster broadband ISP speeds to those who can’t yet receive a 10Mbps+ capable download speed and aren’t planned to do so in the near future.

A few months ago Ogi started their £200 million project (here) – backed by Infracapital – to deploy a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network to cover 150,000 premises in South Wales by 2025. The good news is that their build has already passed 4,565 households.

Yesterday’s Plenary meeting of the Welsh Parliament raised an interesting point when it highlighted the Welsh Government’s removal of the superfast broadband availability checker from their Superfast Cymru page, which makes it harder for people to know which areas will benefit from the state aid supported rollout.

Rural focused UK ISP Voneus, which is supported by investment from Macquarie Capital, looks set to bring faster broadband speeds of between 50Mbps to 1000Mbps (gigabit) to more areas of South West Wales, seemingly including several communities across parts of Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion.

The Government’s Building Digital UK team has today posted a new evaluation of the previous Superfast Broadband Programme (SFBB), which helped to boost the coverage of “superfast” (24-30Mbps+) ISP networks from c.76% (commercial) to around 97% of premises (i.e. an additional 5.5 million premises) across three phases.

The UK Government’s Building Digital UK (BDUK) team has today published details on Phase 3 of their £5bn Project Gigabit rollout programme, which will in this phase work to extend 1Gbps capable broadband ISP networks to a further 570,000 premises in rural and semi-rural areas.

Openreach (BT) has just published a new update to the UK rollout plan for their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network, which appears to add around 170 new locations (towns and villages) as part of their £15bn project to cover 25 million premises by December 2026.

The part publicly funded effort by Broadway Partners (ISP Broadway Broadband) to deploy a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network to cover several rural communities in Pembrokeshire (Wales) appears to have hit a few problems, which has slowed their progress. But they may have already overcome them.

Emtelle UK, which is a global manufacturer of blown fibre and ducted network solution, has secured a multi-million pound contract to support Phase One of Ogi‘s £200m project (here) – backed by Infracapital – to deploy a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network to 150,000 premises in South Wales by 2025.

In an unsurprising move, Ordnance Survey (OS) has confirmed that they’re working with Atkins to build the UK Government’s new National Underground Asset Register (NUAR), which is a digital map of underground pipes (water etc.) and cables (broadband, power etc.) that could help reduce accidental damage.
