Alternative ISP Voneus, which has deployed their ‘up to’ 100Mbps capable “Wireless Fibre To The Home” (WFTTH) broadband network into a number of UK rural areas, has announced the acquisition of rival provider Cotswold Wireless for an undisclosed sum.

Nokia says they will become the first to demonstrate a hybrid Wireless Passive Optical Network (PON) solution at the Broadband World Forum in Berlin, which can offer up to 1Gbps broadband speeds to homes by harnessing both an optical fibre network and WiGig’s 60GHz wireless standard (802.11ad).

Hull-based Connexin, which operates wireless broadband networks in East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire (England), looks set grow after it secured an investment of £10m from Digital Alpha Advisors (DAA). A recent meeting revealed that 1,600 premises on the Isle of Mull (Scotland) will remain disconnected from superfast broadband because the 8 wireless mast that were built cannot be reused by the community due to state aid rules.
