Consumer magazine PC Pro has published the results of their annual PCPro Excellence Awards 2014 event, which much like last year named Zen Internet the “Best Broadband ISP“. Meanwhile PlusNet was the “Highly Commended” runner-up in second place.

Rochdale-based ISP Zen Internet has spent time analysing common broadband patterns and discovered that a “significant number” of their broadband users appear to be suffering a performance loss, especially those on 8Mbps ADSL and 20-24Mbps ADSL2+ lines, because their routers unwittingly enabling the “idle time-out” (aka – “dial-on-demand“) setting.

Communications provider Zen Internet has added a new ‘up to’ 76Mbps (19Mbps uploads) capable Unlimited Fibre Office package, which includes an SLA and 60Mbps speed “guarantee”, to its wider range of superfast broadband (FTTC) products for business and home users in the United Kingdom.

The Regulatory Manager for UK ISP Zen Internet, Gary Hough, has criticised the Government’s efforts to introduce a new Voluntary Copyright Alert Programme (VCAP) of Internet piracy warning letters. Zen noted the distinct lack of engagement with the wider ISP industry and said that they currently had no intention of signing up to such a scheme.

Popular ISP Zen Internet has apologised after 11,000 of its broadband customers (FTTC and ADSL etc.) were left without service for nearly 8 hours on Sunday (27th April 2014) after a fibre optic cable broke. Sadly the provider’s network then failed to transfer affected services over to alternative circuits.

Broadband provider Zen Internet has today called upon the Government to get tough on the causes of Repetitive Electric Impulse Noise (REIN), which references a type of electrical interference that can disrupt the performance and stability of consumer broadband services (e.g. ADSL and FTTC lines).

Consumer magazine Which? has granted Recommended Provider status for the fifth consecutive time to PlusNet’s Home Broadband service in their latest biannual survey of ISP reliability, value, performance and general customer satisfaction. Apparently this time around they were the only ISP to achieve the gong.

The Chief Executive of Ofcom, Ed Richards, has told the ‘Consumers and Citizens in the Communications Sector’ event that telephone operators and broadband ISPs still needed to take “further action” in order to help the regulator remove any “remaining barriers to switching” between providers.

Rochdale-based Zen Internet has officially joined other ISPs to become an approved supplier for the government’s Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) based Connection Vouchers Scheme (full details), which offers grants of up to £3,000 to help businesses in 22 UK cities install a superfast broadband connection.

A new survey of 100 senior IT strategists at UK organisations of all sizes, which was published by Zen Internet today, has revealed that 22% of businesses have adopted FTTC superfast broadband for their office WAN connectivity; the same proportion as those with dial-up. But Leased Lines remain dominant.
