The introduction of faster HSPA (HSU/DPA) '
Mobile Broadband' technologies, which are often referred to as 3.5G and theoretically capable of downstream speeds up to 14Mbps, is helping to drive Mobile Broadband uptake across the globe.
The Global Mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) reports that commercial HSDPA networks around the world have grown by 69% since the start of last year:
There are now 166 commercial HSDPA networks in 75 countries and a further 38 networks are committed to rollouts, which will bump the total to 204 HSDPA networks in 89 countries, said the GSA.
Commercial HSDPA networks are widely available in Western Europe (61 networks), Asia Pacific (35), Eastern Europe (34), the Middle East and Africa (20) and the Americas and the Caribbean (16).
UK Mobile Broadband services also spent much of last year coming down in price, a trend that is expected to continue into 2008, with services gradually increasing in speed. More @
