Ofcom has released its latest quarterly (Q2-2007) Telecommunications market data tables (
here), which includes a breakdown of total small business and residential broadband connections to Q3-2007. BT Retail (Total Broadband) has again managed to increase its market share from 25.9% during Q2-2007 to 27.2% in Q3. The figures break down as follows:
BT Retail xDSL (ADSL) - 4,074,000
Other xDSL (exc. LLU) - 4,375,000
VirginMedia (Cable) - 3,308,000
Other inc. (LLU) - 3,204,000It's interesting to note that while BT Retail (DSL),
Virgin Media (Cable) and
LLU (unbundled) based DSL broadband connections have all increased, wholesale DSL lines (excluding
LLU) reduced from 5,017,000 during Q2 to 4,375,000 in Q3.
This is perhaps representative of the growing shift of consumers onto cheaper unbundled lines, which grew from 2,432,000 during Q2 to 3,204,000 in Q3. That's easily the largest single movement with just under 800,000 broadband connections shifting on to unbundled lines.
