The latest comScore research has revealed that UK Internet users spent an average of 36.2 hours online during the month of July, with the top 20% (heavy surfers) able to almost triple that figure (99.4 hours).
comScore's July surfing statistics were as follows:
- Heavy Surfers (6,129,000 Users) - 99.4 Hours
- Medium Surfers (9,712,000 Users) - 40.1 Hours
- Light Surfers (15,950,000 Users) - 9.5 Hours
Interestingly the study found that light users sent more time on banking and financial sites than heavy ones. The reverse occurs for Instant Messaging, which saw heavy users dominate light users with three times as much usage.
Heavy users were also more likely to engage in social networking sites, multimedia (videos etc.), discussion forums and online auctions. By comparison light users were more interested in government sites, education, travel and property.
