The UK Advertising Standards Authority has upheld complaints against the ISP divisions of both
Wanadoo and NTL today.
One related to NTL's promotion of broadband in an area that couldn't receive it:
Objection to a direct mailing, sent with a customer''s bill, that was headed "Faster Internet access for just £8.99 a month!" and claimed "It''s true! If you are still using dial-up, you can get nearly 3 times faster Internet access for just £8.99 for the first three months ...". The complainant objected that the mailing was misleading, because the advertisers could not provide broadband Internet services in his area.In the other, BT objected to a
Wanadoo advert because it claimed to do something that other ISP's couldn't, when they could:
British Telecommunications plc objected to a national press advertisement, for a broadband service, that claimed "You can''t go faster for less". Text stated "With Wanadoo Broadband go up to twice as fast as standard broadband for only £17.99 a month ... ". The complainants, who believed other companies offered a broadband service that was faster than the advertisers'' for a lower price, objected that the claim "You can''t go faster for less" was misleading.
