AOL has been named as the global online partner for the forthcoming "Live 8" concert, which many may find easier to recognise when referred to as "Live Aid 2":
For the webcast, AOL will be the online partner, providing the live concert, archive and additional content on the AOL service and on the four AOL portals: http://www.aolmusic.com, http://www.aol.co.uk, http://www.aol.fr and http://www.aol.de.
The Live 8 organisers describe this aspect as "the biggest interactive event in history".The event it due to take place on the 6th July 2005, which is designed to coincide with a meeting of the G8 (8 leaders of the worlds richest and most powerful countries):
"
In front of these 8 men will be a costed and cogent plan the result of a years work by the Africa Commission a plan to drop 100% of the debts owed by the worlds richest countries by the worlds poorest countries, to double the amount of high quality aid which is spent in those countries adding an extra $50 billion, and to change the injustices of the trade laws so that those countries can build a future for themselves."
It's hoped that the concert will help to promote the problems of the world and encourage the political leaders to make the right decision.
