BT Yahoo! Portal Revamped

Posted: 09th Mar, 2005 By: MarkJ
BT Retail has revamped its Yahoo! portal with, among other things, a new faster 'tabbed-browsing' website browser, RSS news feed support and redesigned sidebar:

Core to the revamped portal is a new and updated browser, which now includes tabbed browsing – allowing customers to surf numerous sites with the same browser. The new anonymous browsing feature means you can surf the web without having to sign in, and a redesigned sidebar provides simple access to your most frequently used services. The new browser is also faster than the previous version and incorporates a number of other usability and accessibility improvements.

Customers are one click away from contacting friends and family, filing their favourite pages through easy to access tabs, or going back through previous navigation paths using the new bookmarking and history facility. Perfect for holidays and weddings, there is also a photo library tool that allows users to display their images on a made-to-measure site of their own. By forwarding links to family and friends customers can share their memories wherever they are in the world.

Extroverts will love the avatar facility that lets you create an alter ego to front your instant messenger communication. There is also an improved choice of colour schemes to make browsing easier for customers with visual impairments.

BT Yahoo! Broadband is the first ISP to use RSS (Really Simple Syndication) technology, giving broadband and narrowband customers the opportunity to customise their internet experience. Thousands of website publishers, from established content sites such as the BBC to bloggers are now /providing RSS and the new look site allows BT Yahoo! Broadband customers to use this technology to create their own bespoke homepage with feature rich content. From sport news to celebrity gossip, home improvements to business news, there is no need for customers to search through unrelated links to find the information they need. And because users can create multiple pages, each member of the family can have their own internet space.

As part of the content enhancements, BT Yahoo! Broadband customers will also have access to ITN news, with round-the-clock rolling news video and text on the home page covering breaking news as well as entertainment news from the world of movies, music and celebrity.
