Troubled UK ISP Freedom2Surf has issued yet another brief service update this week, highlighting present and future improvements to their BT based ADSL (IPStream) platform. There's also mention of a brand new network:
1. The IPStream service now seems to be stable
2. On LLU we will be installing additional hardware this week and plan for it to go live on Thursday 16th February; this should further improve performance.
3. For those LLU customers who cannot wait we are offering free migration to IPStream at the fastest available speed. A nationwide 8 mb/s service will be available on IPStream nationwide from April.
4. As previously advised we have been approaching the small number of customers who we feel are using the network in a manner which is detrimentally affecting the experience of our other customers, namely those with usage significantly over 100 gbytes per month. I am pleased to say that we have had success in requesting that they change their usage patterns or leave F2S.
We have now received confirmation that the new F2S network will become operational from 28th February and it is our intention to migrate all IPStream users over to that network during the first two weeks in March. We received fewer
ISP Complaints in todays summary, suggesting that while problems remain, things may finally be turning a corner.
