Avanti Broadband has teamed up with the Access to Broadband Campaign (ABC) and the Community Broadband Network (CBN) to identify broadband Notspots. These are areas of the UK that are unable get a satisfactory broadband service:
More than 99% of the population will soon be able to be connected to a BT exchange that has been enabled for broadband services, and around 50% of the population are able to get cable broadband. However there are pockets of the country that are out of range or for some other reason cannot get a broadband service. Many such areas have been catered for through satellite and wireless services often organised on a community basis.
The survey is at http://www.notspot.info. The aim of the partnership is to get a detailed picture of where the notspots are and then to work with public sector, commercial and community partners to tackle the problem.A summary of the findings will be published in early March 2006, when the extent of the Notspot problem should have become clear.
