Many former customers of
Activeware and the troubled
Gio Internet, which has been closed for awhile now, have started receiving promotional e-mail from a similarly named ISP -
Geo Internet.
The SPAM marketing mail points to a website that's been designed in a very similar fashion to Gio's old one, yet quite why anybody would be crazy enough to use such a similar name after the last fiasco is beyond us.
Those not familiar with
Gio Internet's troubles and the problems they caused only need to see this search of our news archives -
HERE (more using the 'Previous Page' navigation at the bottom).
We were unable to find a legally required postal address on their 'Contact' page, similarly there's no apparent telephone number. The whois on their domain does at least give us a name and address, although it's nothing familiar.
Digging deeper we tried to resolve one of the last IP's in the trace rout chain for the website:
85.91.226.6 (plesk1.nahda.co.uk / ns1.nahda.co.uk). This is one of the name servers for the domain. Interestingly ns1.nahda.co.uk (85.91.226.6) is identical to the one used by the Hauka.co.uk/Hauka.com domains.
In the meantime many former
Gio Internet customers, whom were shoved onto Customnet when Gio closed, have now also been pushed onto another ISP from there -
http://www.garnerdigital.com . Its certainly bad timing given that this time last year is roughly when Gios biggest problems began.
