EFHBroadband Joins The I.W.F

Posted: 30th Jan, 2006 By: MarkJ
EFHBroadband has become the latest ISP to join the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) and help in the fight against online child abuse images:

IWF is the only authorised UK organisation which tackles illegal internet content, specifically targeting child abuse, obscene and racist content.

“We are a rapidly growing broadband ISP with many residential and business users. With so many people using our services to access the internet we felt it was right to do whatever we can to reduce exposure to child abuse images” explained Paul Cowell of EFHBroadband.com. “We have always believed in freedom of speech and non-censorship of the web as a matter of principal, but unfortunately there is a negative side to such freedom and a line has to be drawn. The publication of child abuse images oversteps this line, so we are pleased to be working with the IWF to help prevent exposure to this kind of content.”

Using an advanced filtering system will allow EFHBroadband.com to block access to sites on the IWF's Child Abuse Images URL list without slowing or impeding access to the rest of the internet. The service has been implemented transparently and customers do not need to make any changes to their setup. The company is expecting the full support of its customers in this move and hopes it will provide reassurance to everyone that the risks of inadvertent access to such material has been minimised.

Peter Robbins, CEO, IWF added: “We are very pleased that EFH Broadband have chosen to join the IWF in a partnership approach to fighting potentially illegal online content and we very much appreciate their support. Their decision to use the data we have about the location of child abuse websites from around the world indicates their determination to protect their customers from inadvertent exposure to such images.”
