Train operator GNER is expected to complete its rollout of on-train broadband wireless (Wi-Fi) access before the end of this summer:
The rail company, which operates the East Coast Mainline, between London and Scotland, started the process in 2004, and has already installed Wi-Fi in 30 of its newer trains. It now says that all its trains will provide wireless web access by the end of the summer.
Passengers on the route which links London King's Cross with Leeds, York, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow can now use a laptop to connect to the internet and even view their progress along the journey online.The
Web-User item notes that prices start from £2.95 for 30 minutes of usage, rising to £9.95 for 24 hours. First class carriages can surf for free.
