Much as expected, Sky has today revealed the details of its "free" broadband promotion. The catch? It's only free if you're an existing SkyDigital user (quite expensive to start with) and those wanting anything above 2Mbps will still have to pay.
The details of each package can be found here:
http://www.sky.com/broadbandThe "free" (BASE) package offers up to 2Mbps coupled to a 2GB monthly usage cap. There's also a £40 activation fee and those lacking the knowledge to install it themselves can optionally fork out a further £50 for the home install.
Typically all packages lock you into an evil 12 month contract, although it is better than Carphone's nightmarish 18 month period.
Next up we have the 'MID' package, offering up to 8Mbps on a 40GB data cap, yet with a lower £20 activation fee. However you'll have to pay £5 per month extra as well. There's also another 8Mbps and 16Mbps package, check the site above for details.
Presently the Easynet (now owned by Sky) based
LLU network covers roughly 28% of UK homes, based primarily inside city areas (London etc.). However this is expected to hit 70% by the start of 2008.
