Having already been hit by one major e-mail related problem this month (
here), ISP Force9 (PlusNet) has now suffered another after accidentally exposing the personal details of 20,000 customers to 3,500 other users.
The providers 'customer communications coordinator', James Bailey, has issued the following statement:
---
Recently, we received notification that during the process of emailing customers about the announcements posted yesterday, whilst uploading the information to the email tool that we use, an error occurred and we sent the contact information of 20,000 people to approximately 3,500 customers.
Whilst this email did not contain any banking or password information, this does include contact information (name, email address) along with product information.
If you did receive this email, please accept our apologies and we would request that you delete the email. We will be contacting all of the people affected by this error by email.---
PlusNet, fresh from criticism over its harsh response to angry complaints about service and support quality on some forums, seems to be going through yet another rough patch at present. Hopefully August proves to be a better month.
Customers can find more details on the various problems at The Official PlusNet Usergroup:
