Having recently won licenses for identical wireless spectrum (1785-1805MHz) in Ireland and Northern Ireland, Personal Broadband UK (PBUK) has now revealed further details of its planned service.
PBUK intends to use the spectrum for a unified all-Ireland mobile broadband Internet service, which will specifically target businesses. The setup has already been trialled for three years in Belfast and will shortly begin its expansion by moving into Dublin and other major city centres.
The provider has chosen to use iBurst, a spectrum-efficient mobile technology manufactured by Kyocera of Japan, to deliver the product. This allows the service to utilize a smaller amount of spectrum, while also needing fewer base stations than conventional systems. Price and package details were not stated.
