Administrator Fails To Find Buyer For Biscit

Posted: 19th Mar, 2007 By: MarkJ
UPDATE: Sadly BT is still unable to supply EurISP/YourCommunications based Biscit users with a MAC. However some users have contacted the supplier and been told that it may be possible in a day or so.

Biscit Internet's website has been updated with a new announcement, confirming that the ISP's administrator has been unable to find a buyer. The statement also mentions BT's recent MAC agreement:

Biscit Internet Ltd was placed into administration on 5th March 2007, and despite efforts to sell the ongoing business, or it's assets, both pre and post administration, none of the buyers expressing an interest have been able to conclude the transaction.

The administrator has been in discussions with OFCOM and British Telecommunications plc about the situation, and agreement has been reached with both parties for British Telecom to provide an opportunity for customers to obtain their MAC (Migration Authorisation Code) for broadband ADSL services directly from BT, as Biscit no longer have the facility to generate these.

Please note that all services will be affected/terminated, and we have listed below the common services, and customers are urged to make alternative arrangements as soon as possible:

  • broadband ADSL

  • SDSL

  • anytime dialup (based on 0800/0808 freephone numbers)

  • pay as you go dialup (based on 0845 local call rates)

  • other internet or connectivity services

  • telephone line rental

  • telephone fixed line call services

  • all web and email hosting services
We will provide a link to a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page by Tuesday 20th March, and aim to add further information for guidance to customers.

Any customers requiring their MAC for ADSL services should contact BT on 0800 169 9576, and NOT Biscit, the administrator or OFCOM.

Any company/person who has supplied services to Biscit without payment, or has a valid claim, should send full details in writing to the administrator using the details supplied below:

Tony Thompson,
Piper Thompson
Mulberry House
53 Church Street Weybridge
Surrey, KT13 8DJ

Please note that any company/person owing monies to Biscit, should similarly send payments to the administrator, at the address above.

The generalised wording suggests that EurISP (Maxsurf login) based Biscit customers may now also be included in BT's migration code agreement, although we've yet to have that confirmed. No specific supplier issues are stated in the update.

Unfortunately the aftermath of a failed ISP can often be more traumatic than its collapse. Administrators typically begin tracing presumed debts, which can sometimes encompass ex-subscribers deemed to owe money. Biscit was known for its billing issues and thus some ex-users may find themselves incorrectly targeted.

It’s important to have a record of all correspondences with the provider, via e-mail or otherwise, just in case this occurs.
