One of the customers PlusNet cut-off from its service has threatened to use the Data Protection Agency (DPA) against the ISP because it used the phone to inform him:
Wade Womersley says PlusNet informed him by phone that it planned to terminate his account, breaching the companys own terms and conditions.
In a letter to PlusNet, Womersley says the ISPs own terms and conditions state that any notice to customers must be via the Contact Us tool or email to the address provided to you as part of the service.
I have never provided PlusNet with consent to use my telephone number for any purpose other than providing a broadband connection over the line, he states. To be honest we can quite understand PlusNet doing this "
out of courtesy" given the unique situation of removing a customer for his criticism of the service. Having said that, it still doesn't make the subscribers actual removal anymore justified. More @
