This morning Microsoft issued a raft of nine new patches for its operating systems (WinXP etc.) and other applications, a fairly common occurrence that both users and ISPs should be use to.
However at least one major ISP supplier, 186k (Netservices), appears to have suffered service degradation as a result of the mass patching:
Dear Customer,
The following announcement is for your information only and requires no further action on your part.
There is a possibility you could be experiencing some congestion issues this morning on our network. This appears to be affecting systems other than just our own, and it is believed to be related to a large Microsoft Windows Update which has become available for automatic download today.
If you have any further queries, please reply to this email or contact us on 0870 1630133.
Best regards
186k Support Team
None of the updates appeared to be that colossal in size although with such a wide usage of Microsoft software its understandable that a limited degree of slowdown could occur as many of them would begin downloading at the same time (auto-update).
