Remember
THIS? Unfortunately it would appear as though our initial fears about supply problems have been proven correct. UK ISP
Orange has been forced to withdraw its "FREE" laptop and broadband offer after running out of computers.
The
Computer Shopper piece notes that "
tens of thousands" of laptops had been allocated but that they had all been used up within the first few weeks. The offer itself, which was not originally promoted as being time limited, was done in conjunction with PCWorld.
Meanwhile AOL UK still has a better spec "FREE" laptop and broadband promotion running (
details) with a limited supply of some 100,000 computers. We don't expect that one to be around for much longer either.
Typically
Oranges 2GB usage allowance on the package was also widely regarded as being too feeble, especially when you consider the contract lengths involved.
