Weve just uploaded a new article that lists some of the less well known tips for improving a broadband ADSL connection. It is not intended as a troubleshooting tutorial, but may be expanded upon in the future (some tips may also apply to other technologies, most won't):
Sample Quote:10. Use different DNS servers (Domain Name System).DNS is how domain names are translated into IP (Internet Protocol) addresses. If your computer cannot access DNS or those servers are suffering problems then your web browser will not be able to find web sites, and you will not be able to send or receive email.
Every time you connect to your ISP it will assign both primary (preferred) and secondary (alternate) DNS IPs to your computer. However your ISP may not offer the best DNS servers and its incredibly easy to choose a free alternative from a third party, thus bypassing the ISPs network.
We strongly recommend OpenDNS as an alternative, even if its just to test:
