ISP V Two One (
V21) has today published new research that reveals the benefits of broadband towards remote working, such as from home or on the train:
Recent research has revealed that 90% of businesses are embracing new and efficient ways of remote working as part of their business practice*, with Broadband largely responsible for making this possible. The research highlights that a quarter of employees use advancing technology to work from home or on the move, for activities such as accessing the Internet and doing some last minute research whilst travelling on a train to a business meeting!
Broadband makes it easier for employees to work at home, due to the speed in which information can be retrieved, files can be downloaded and communication lines can be made and established. Working from home or on the move enables employees to dramatically reduce the time they spend commuting, which has been linked to higher working productivity levels. The research, commissioned by Citrix, has also suggested that remote home working delivers a variety of economic benefits including decreasing congestion on the roads, as well as business benefits such as a decrease in staff turnover.
WiFi technology also has the potential to transform the way we work. WiFi - Wireless Fidelity - is a high-speed wireless networking system which enables a wireless connection between an electronic device and the Internet. Wireless networks have been appearing in public places across the UK over the past year and a user with either an enabled laptop, PDA or mobile phone must be in an area known as a hot spot to access the Internet without the need for cables or plugs. WiFi is already installed in many office environments and is now making a major impact on pubs, cafés, restaurants, airport waiting rooms and also on trains. This enables everyone to have access to the information superhighway, anytime and anywhere.
The advancement of such technologies means that businesses and employees can stay in touch at any time and in any place. The opportunity of working away from the office opens up an abundance of possibilities for a large cross-section of the population including those with mobility difficulties, working mothers and for long-distance commuters.
Steve Kaye, Managing Director, V Two One enthused, The progression of Broadband and wireless networks are technologies instrumental in providing quicker, cost efficient ways of working. Evidence suggests links between higher worker productivity and the use of communications technologies, ultimately apportioned to economic growth.
