ISP UK Online has today presented £65,075 to the British Olympic Association (BOA). The move forms part of its drive to support British athletes, while also boosting its own publicity:
UK Online customers raised the funds during a special promotional period in 2004, with the ISP making a donation to the BOA for every new customer that signed up or upgraded their service.
Four times Olympic Gold medallist Sir Matthew Pinsent attended the presentation, alongside the BOAs Chief Executive, Simon Clegg, and Chris Stening, General Manager of UK Online. The donation is part of an ongoing commitment by Easynet Ltd. - which UK Online is part of - to support Team GB and the BOA through the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Turin.
Commenting on the importance of corporate support for young athletes, Sir Matthew Pinsent, said: Without sponsors like UK Online, we would not see the same level of success that we had at last years Olympics. It is essential that programmes such as the BOAs athlete support services receive funding and corporate support in order to nurture young sporting talent, and ensure the future of British Olympic sport.
Simon Clegg, Chief Executive of the British Olympic Association, said: UK Onlines continued support of Team GB and the BOA has been exemplary. Receiving this type of financial support will assist us to further develop our athlete support programmes and produce future British heroes like Sir Matthew Pinsent.
UK Onlines General Manager Chris Stening added, UK Online are proud to be sponsoring Team GB, and believe it is important for British businesses such as ourselves to support British sport and our talented British youth.
