BT's Voice & Broadband X-Mas Offer

Posted: 09th Nov, 2004 By: MarkJ
Sign up to any of BT's consumer broadband packages and make free UK calls for a whole year via the operators BT Communicator with Yahoo! messenger (VoIP) platform:

BT Communicator works by using simple to use software to turn customers’ home computers into a very smart phone.

The technology also allows users to manage their home communications – phone calls, webcam, emails, texts and instant messaging – together in one place on their PC. Customers can also make free PC to PC calls using BT Communicator’s with Yahoo! Messenger’s VoIP technology to anywhere in the world.

This offer is available from November 8 and runs until December 31 2004 to all customers on any BT Together fixed-line packages. Once a customer has signed up for broadband, they will be given instructions on how to get and activate BT Communicator and receive their free calls.

Users either need a microphone and speakers on their PC or a special headset – which will be available free of charge for broadband customers taking the offer**.

BT is also running a special Christmas offer for all their existing broadband customers. Those who register between November 8 and January 14 2005 and download the BT Communicator will receive one month’s worth of free UK calls and a free headset.

Once the offer expires, users can still make calls to a landline or mobile from their computer but for the same cost as a phone call on their BT Together fixed line phone package. However, they will still be able to make free calls when connecting from their PC to another PC – using VoIP technology.

The service also enables customers to make UK phone calls on their BT Together package – potentially from anywhere in the world.

Customers can take their laptop abroad and then plug it into the internet. While online, BT’s VoIP technology then allows an international call to be made back to the UK for the price of a domestic UK call.

Users simply click on their address book and the PC will dial the number requested and put the call through with the cost being billed straight back to the customer’s BT phone bill.
