Virgin.net Alter Broadband Packages

Posted: 08th Jun, 2006 By: MarkJ
ISP Virgin.net has today announced improvements to its broadband products. Plan One now benefits from an unlimited monthly download allowance, while Plan Three's speeds have doubled from 512 Kbps to 1 Mbps:

All new customers will benefit from the faster speeds when they join Plan Three and current customers will be offered a free speed upgrade over the coming weeks. Unlimited downloads will take effect on Plan One immediately.

The improvements mark the completion of a series of upgrades to Virgin.net Broadband in 2006 including launching a Wireless Kit in February and up to 8 Mbps line speeds in May. The remainder of the year will see free desktop security provided to all broadband customers and the full launch of an exclusive telephone service from telephony partner Loudmouth.

The improvements to Virgin.net Broadband are not just limited to the product, but also to customer experience. A Forrester survey awarded Virgin.net Broadband top marks for customer satisfaction and reliability whilst Uswitch reported Virgin.net’s level of broadband customer satisfaction at 87% - higher than AOL, Wanadoo, Tiscali and BT.

Virgin.net Sales and Marketing Director, Cristel Lee Leed commented: “For us, the Internet has always been about our customers, which is why we’ve improved our products and services in 2006 to include up to 8 Mbps line speeds, Wireless Kits, unlimited downloads and now 1 Mbps on our £14.99 broadband service.”

We note that ‘Plan One’, despite being called “unlimited”, also makes mention of an ‘Acceptable Use’ policy. Digging deeper and the FAQ clearly states the following:

What are usage allowances?

A monthly usage allowance is the maximum amount of data (web pages, photos, music tracks, emails etc) that you can transfer across the Internet every month. This includes both downloading and uploading data (e.g. receiving and sending emails, surfing the Internet and uploading pages to your webspace).

With Virgin.net Broadband Plan Three, you can transfer up to 3 GB of data per month, Plan Two allows up to 6 GB of data to be transfered per month and Plan One, a massive 20 GB.
