ISP/Telco Kingston Communications, which covers the Hull area, has put a stop to its broadband (ADSL) TV service after it proved too unpopular:
At its height KIT Digital TV boasted 10,000 subscribers, but today only has about 4,000 punters. Existing customers have already been told the service will close from 3 April.
In a statement, the telco said: "Without the benefits of scale, further investment in the KIT service would not be cost-effective, and due to increased competition in the Digital TV market, it is not viable to continue the service as it currently exists. The closure should serve as a warning to the raft of other Internet TV products coming on-stream over the next few months. Simply taking content and sticking it online is by no means a rout to success.
Typically over-pricing, low quality or undesired content and ISP bandwidth restrictions are likely to play havoc with such services for a few years yet. More @
