BT is to offer home engineer assisted broadband installations, albeit as an 'option' for those lacking the knowledge required to do it themselves:
It seems the monster telco is mulling the idea of charging punters around £50 a throw for a home visit.
The firm currently has around 2.5m retail broadband punters, and reckons there's a market for an engineer popping round to plug in the wires. The Register's piece hints that this may only be available to BT Retail's own ISP's, although the details are not specific. Engineer installations were dropped several years ago after BT developed a method (wires-free) to deliver ADSL without requiring them.
