'Get Safe Online' Highlights XMas Security

Posted: 11th Dec, 2006 By: MarkJ
Expecting to get a new PC this Christmas? The 'Get Safe Online' campaign claims that 21% of Brits may get a new computer this festive season and stresses the importance of making sure it's secure:

However, 50 per cent of Brits wrongly believe that the PCs they give or receive are already protected against viruses when in fact they are not, Get Safe Online said in its new campaign, 'A PC is for life and not just for Christmas' [EDITOR: Well, maybe three years until you have to upgrade =)].

The campaign warns that because criminals use ever sophisticated methods to attack computers, the "chances are that by the time you unwrap your PC this Christmas, regardless of security measures that have been pre-installed, an entirely new threat will emerge".

The message is profoundly important because failings in your security can impact others around the globe, since Viruses and Trojans will then use your system to propagate onto others. Stay safe and help everybody else do the same. More @ Web-User.
