Sky has technically been offering a triple play (broadband, TV and telephone) service for sometime now, yet that is based on optional elements. Today the broadcaster has changed all that by introducing '
See, Speak and Surf'.
See, Speak and Surf, or 'SSS' if you prefer, is a much more specific product that combines an 'up to' 8Mbps broadband connection (40GB usage limit) with free evening and weekend calls to landlines. To round things off Sky has also bundled six 'entertainment mixes' from their popular satellite TV service.
Overall the package comes to a more than respectable £26 per month, including an initial £20 connection fee. Unfortunately this DOES NOT include line rental, which is still chargeable by BT. Not to mention the usual 12 month contract, which we're never fond of.
In addition it's worth point out that SSS, which is clearly designed to undermine Virgin Media's (ntl:
Telewest and Virgin Mobile) forthcoming options, is based off Sky's unbundled (
LLU) platform. Presently coverage is limited to 50% (population) of the country, yet this is expected to hit 70% by July 2007.
Unfortunately anybody wanting to take a gamble may run into difficulties as their website appears to be rather strained. Did we mention the complaints about poor support, billing and connection problems that have been going around?
